PARTICIPATION (Varsity / JV):
All interested academically eligible students who are
willing to work hard, maintain a positive attitude, and
demonstrate responsibility and consideration as a team
member, will be given the opportunity to participate in
extracurricular athletics at St. Paul’s. While academics
are always considered the primary responsibility of each
student, athletics provides an additional avenue to explore
talents and learn new skills. Eligible students are
encouraged to participate in some aspect of our athletic
program, as a means of developing individually, as well as
contributing to our overall school spirit.
JV (Junior Varsity) sports
opportunities are available for fourth through sixth
graders. At this level, the programs are designed to be less
competitive and more instructional. The goal is for every
child to participate in the sporting activity, giving every
child who participates the opportunity to experience the
sport, develop skills, and determine if he/she has the
desire to play at the next level. Please note that coaches
are given greater discretion in assigning playing time at
tournaments.
Varsity sports opportunities
are available for seventh and eighth graders*. At this
level, a greater emphasis is placed on competition. While
goals at the varsity level still include developing skills
and “having the experience of playing the sport”, some
students will receive more playing time based on their
athletic aptitude to potentially play at the high school
level. (* Some students from lower grades may be asked to
participate at the varsity level.)
In order to be excused from a
practice, a parent must let the coach know at least one day
ahead of time. Absence from a practice may affect his or her
game participation for the next scheduled game regardless of
the reason for the missed practice. An unexcused absence,
at the coach’s discretion, will result in a one game
suspension.
Once games have begun students
are to complete the season. If a student quits the team
before the end of the season a parent must contact the coach
directly. Athletic fees will not be refunded. |
