O LORD, OPEN MY LIPS was recorded by the children's
choirs of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School,
Fort Wayne, Indiana. These choirs, comprised of
volunteer singers from grades 3 - 8, exists
primarily to proclaim the Word of God through music
in the services at St. Paul's Church. Prepared over
a six-month period in 1995 by several different
combinations of these singers, the recording was
made in the church, using the musical resources of
our parish
This collection is intended to be a resource for
parents, teachers in day schools and Sunday schools,
and others who are interested in preparing children
for participation in the richness of the Divine
Service and Lutheran hymnody. Whether the recording
is played in a classroom, during family devotions or
in the car on the way to after-school activities, we
encourage you to sing along with us or just listen
and become more familiar with these hymns and
responses from Lutheran Worship.
The title "O Lord, Open My Lips" reflects the
understanding that in the Divine Service God gives
himself to his people in Word and Sacrament, and
that only through his grace are we able to open our
lips and express thanksgiving for all he has given
and continues to give to us. To God alone be the
glory!
